I would be glad to develop

I would be glad to develop specific web applications using the touch screen...with a web browser we can imagine any kind of application.

Internet browser

year an internet browser would be great
and with java applet support as well

Please support a fullscreen

Please support a fullscreen browser (Firefox??) which you can set to refresh every 1 minute. This would open up a *LOT* of possibilities - even ORB-streaming (www.orb.com) if the browser supported flash.

web browser

please add a web browser. perhaps opera. thanks

Web browser

Hmmmm. Do you think anyone will browse web on a photo frame, using fingers tapping on the screen?

Our product team once fiercely argued about this topic and concluded that people prefer to use a PC with a keyboard to do that.

However, we will support Flash video sometimes in the future.

Web browser

Hi guys,

You've got a wonderful framework in your hands. That is true that people won't browse on the frame. HOwever, if it can do it, as software developper, I would be glad to develop specific web applications using the touch screen...with a web browser we can imagine any kind of application. Just think about Apple who opened a part of the iphone to developpers...

I am also, of course, interseted in accessing network shares.

yeah i understand this...i

yeah i understand this...i like your product very much because of that i write you. i like to have networkaccess to control my hifi system over a web interface, but without a browser ...
i read about such projects a lot of people out there were searching for such a product like yours. perhaps you will loose clients, because sony is bringing out a web browsing photo frame(with opera). i think adding a browser isn't such a huge effort.
or are you going to offer a sdk for your photo frame? this also would be great, then your product have the potential to be a hit.
well, flash support is a beginning.
thanks

SDK is coming

We do plan to open up the platform sometime next year. So intelligent users can customize it to be whatever device they want the iGala to be.

System is Linux based with support of touch screen UI and networking. We will also provide as many ready-to-be used modules as we can.

We will look into the possibility of bringing opera onto iGala. That is a very interesting point.

Opera

Hello i-Gala Team,
whats happend about the opera browser and open sdk ?
Will there be a supported opera browser this year ?

I wait the last month, with my decision for a picture frame
development. With simple touchable browser functionality
i dont need to build my own on. Anythings happend here ?

Michael

SDK avilable only for partner companies this time

We are working with multiple companies on iGala projects using SDK. However, we don't think it is ready to be opened up to public, since our engineers are spending hours with each SDK user for technical supports.

There is a good chance we will support a browser on the frame sometime this year, not necessarily Opera Mobile though.

Unix network file system (NFS)

Would it be possible to leave NFS configured into the kernel that you ship with? Either that, or consider the FUSE modules (file-system in user space) so that any file-system, network or otherwise, could be supported by the user community, in the future.

NFS would be nice because it's a mature (ancient?) technology and it works well and reliably (well, enough for a photo frame anyway). Plus, more geeks would adopt the product and develop add-ons which possibly could help drive more sales :-)

It would require little effort to leave in, so is thusly worth the effort (zero porting effort, just don't turn off the NFS kernel module features), and if the user doesn't configure in any NFS mounts, the kernel module won't even be loaded, hence no impact on your boot-up time.

The Gala as a Netbook

Hi,
It looks like you have a nice mini computer there. I think there would be a market for it as a touch screen mini book. I know it is missing a battery, but most users I know use their laptops plugged in anyway and while mobility is essential, mobility while powered on is less important.

There is such a large community of linux developers/hackers out there, that I'm sure that in no time, there would be a debian/XFCE based distro running on the units.

It would also be useful as a networked media player for Point of Sales.

Regarding bluetooth, I think providing an extra few USB 2.0 slots and allowing customers to add their own bluetooth dongle would be a suitable. I would also be interested in providing a touch screen interface to my Bluetooth Marketing system.
